Popular contemporary American country singer with an excellent voice.
With a mix of good-time party singalongs and the occasional ballad, Tracy Byrd's brand of new traditionalist country made him a star in the '90s. Born in rural Texas, he released his debut on MCA in 1993 and climbed to the top of the charts with "Holdin' Heaven." The follow-up album, 1994's No Ordinary Man, was Byrd's commercial breakthrough, selling over two million copies thanks to four Top Five hits. Byrd later left the label for RCA, and 2001's "Ten Rounds with Jose Cuervo" became his second number one hit. After releasing 2003's Truth About Men, he exited RCA's roster and signed with Blind Mule Records. ~ Steve Huey
