Militantly-muslim, intellectual hardcore rapper from San Francisco at the center of a maelstrom of controversy in the early-1990s.
While widely shunned by the mainstream for perceived militant views, muslim hardcore rapper Paris carved out a sturdy street niche for himself with rough, violent, enlightened flows that seemed to devour every bit of his essence. Based in San Francisco, his breakthrough came with the consciense-building 1989 single "Break the Grip of Shame." After a tour in support of Public Enemy, he became the center of a familiar sort of controversy when the inflammatory "Bush Killa," off the rawly brilliant 1992 LP SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY, proved too much for some people - including Tommy Boy Records who terminated his contract. His later albums revealed a mellowing - if still concerned - MC, although the spotlight swiftly faded.
